The public art installation by Douwe Blumberg was created specifically for Star K Ranch, a
200‐acre natural area with a learning facility (The Morrison Nature Center) located along the Sand Creek Greenway.
The Art Selection Panel gave the artist a list of area native species to choose from for the
artwork’s theme and Blumberg was most inspired by horses.
The Art Selection Panel envisioned that the artwork would provide visitors with a sense of arrival to a very natural place. A series of 12 life‐size horses made of Corten and stainless steel will be placed as though they are galloping through the parking lot, which is the main trail head for the Star K Ranch.
Each horse figure is cut out in Corten steel with a rusted patina finish. There are three
varieties of horse breeds depicted: Paint, Appaloosa, and Arabian. Stainless steel portrays white spotting and coloration. The tall natural grasses will be allowed to grow naturally around the horses.
