In the year 1911, Andrew Carnegie granted the Building Committee $5,000 to erect a library provided a suitable site was furnished and a pledge of $500 for support and maintenance was given. It was decided to appeal to the people of Eldon and their friends for donations for the purpose of purchasing a site for the building. “A vigorous campaign was instituted,” says one accuont, and on January 1, 1912, the present site was duly paid for and the deed delivered. The cornerstone was laid and dedicated November 23, 1912 and the formal dedication was held May 9, 1913 at the Christian Church. Eldon is indeed fortunate to have such a stately library. It is located on State Highway 16 and is on the National Register of Historic Places.
