Margy’s Hut was constructed in 1982 and named in memorial for Margaret McNamara, the wife of former Secretary of Defense Robert McNamara. This cabin is nested in a nice, solitary location in the Aspen backcountry. The hut is on of the original 10th Mountain huts. The kitchen and den are on the first floor, and sleeping quarters upstairs. The cabin can hold 16, and features two private rooms with 4 bunk beds in one, and double beds in the other. There’s a nice porch on the south side with gorgeous views of the Elk mountains.
There is some great skiing to the north of the hut off Mt. Yekel. If you catch it after a storm, the south face of the western shoulder features great turns. The more popular place to go is off the north and western faces of the mountain. Watch out for the steep terrain and cliff faces off the east side.
Fun skiing, great views, and a warm bed
